It is one of the most annoying feelings in the world. You just feel cut of. Can't reach people, and they can't reach you. We have become so social due to our phones since they are a direct link to us and people we wish to communicate with that with out it gives you this forced anti social feeling.
I like to keep a spare phone in my car for those situations. Simple Nokia phone 3021 that is synced with my SE P910i with my Mac so it shares the same numbers. So where ever I left my phone I request it gets turned off and received the forwarded calls. The only issue is the SMSes can't be forwarded. Also with the sync I have a Mac so the contact numbers, dates are synced to my .Mac account for access from any web terminal.
This frees me up from being dependent on one device for my communication. One added feature with .Mac is when I was traveling my phone died and needed to be reset and lost all my contact information. I visited a Mac store asked to use the computer for a moment logged in to .Mac and synced up my phone and got all my calendar dates and numbers.
